Black Dog Gallery is opening

At last! the Black Dog (slightly grey around the muzzle and paws these days) and I are ready to throw open our gallery doors to the public. On Sunday August 14, from 2-6pm, we are inviting people to visit the space, view pictures, browse through poetry and mull over ideas for using this space for the remainder of its short life. It will have to be pulled down at the end of the year or shortly after, so in the next few months I’d like to see it used as imaginatively as possible. Ideas for exhibitions, poetry readings, workshops, or using part of it for artists’ studios are all welcome. For information about how to get there, please contact me.

Yes, I have moved!

Some of you may be wondering if I am still in my studio in Hahndorf. Well I have finally updated my homepage, and can announce that I have indeed moved to sunny Port Noarlunga. I have taken my dog with me and she is shortly going to open a gallery that will exhibit my work and other people’s – more about that soon. My studio is far bigger and brighter than before, and even has a view!

Port Noarlunga is a wonderful location for artists – a fantastic beach, a reef full of marine life, a river estuary full of birdlife and a thriving arts centre, set in a village atmosphere with cafes, restaurants and Shakespeare’s Book and Coffee shop, a new bookshop that deserves lots of support.

I never know what I’m going to find next on the beach – so I’m starting a little gallery of ‘objets trouvés’, starting with the mermaid in today’s picture.

I have already started teaching a new 5 week ’Drawing for the Terrified’ class on Thursday evenings at the Arts Centre. It has proved so popular that I will be starting a new course on May 19. More details can be found on my teaching page. If you would like to enrol, contact me here

I’m going to a haiku workshop tomorrow Saturday June 5, at the Box Factory, 59 Regent St South, Adelaide, from 2-4.30pm. We still have room for more! It’s only $25 or $20 concession and Friendly Street Poets members (and I’m a member). This includes a delicious afternooon tea, and the presenter, Martina Taeker, is a very experienced practitioner.

Last minute enrolments are very welcome!

Talking about Disastrous Honeymoons…

I am giving a talk this Thursday from 2-3pm at the Coventry Library, Stirling, in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, to explain exactly how I was inspired to write and illustrate a sequel to “the Owl and the Pussycat”. It’s free, plus there will be signed copies of the book for sale. I will do my best to show you how the etchings were produced and will tell you a little bit about Edward Lear as well. The book, some of the original etchings, and some of my other prints (as well as the blocks and plates they were made from) are on display in the library showcase for the next four weeks. You can book by calling the Library on 8408 0420 or just turn up!
